JLPT. JLPT.JLPT: Third year’s the charm?

There is this ongoing joke in my country.

Person 1: This year because of Covid I am not going for my trip abroad.

Person 2: What about last year? Where did you go?

Person 1:No, every other year it is due to lack of money.

😀 😀 😀

I think a version of this can be applied to JLPT also.

Last year I couldn’t give JLPT because of pandemic. Please note that I didn’t mention success, but mere fact of giving the exam. Both the July and December exams are cancelled in my country. And making me kind of glad and sad at the same time. So it will be 3 years since I last gave JLPT. (shocks self)

The applications for the July 2020 JLPT actually coincided with the beginning of the pandemic and the lockdowns to control it. At that moment the uncertainty about the coronavirus was at its peak with no idea on how worse it will become or that it will magically go away in the summer. So i didn’t even think of applying for the July one. And even in August it was quite apparent that things are slowing down.

Finally the things are under semi control despite our worst fears. And now we have to tackle the mundane everyday issues of studying and passing exams to do jobs or not, risking our lives against an invisible enemy. There is a lot to catch up on, both life events wise and study wise.

There are only 5 months left for the exam, with only weekend study time available. As of now I plan to give JLPT 2021. But it is still not finalised. It has no longer to do with any external requirements but internal validation. It would be a nice achievement to have after the year that was.

It is open to a person from any country of any age, who has not translated more than one full length novel. Aka it is a competition to discover and encourage new and upcoming translators no matter when you started.
